Hranicko 1910-2010
by Katerina Prokopova
"These three photographs are a part of my book Hranicko 1910-2010. It is a collection of environmental portraits of people living in small region called Hranicko located in the north-east of Czech Republic. The purpose of this project was to capture people born and living in the region through the period of one century. Each year is represented by one person born in that particular year. The lady on the first photograph has become a witness of all important matters from the collapse of Austro-Hungarian Empire, through two World Wars and the period of "Normalization" to joining EU, she traveled the whole Europe and worked for international companies as well as large national concerns till she retired. The second photograph shows us a typical Czech woman profession of homemaker living her whole life in a small village . The last photograph represents a 1970's generation of "the president Husak's children strongly influenced by Hippies era but in their own way. Everything pro-Western was prohibited in those days therefor they created their own underground style and ways of living which strongly influenced their lives ever after."
